Calgary Expo art book shenanigans

January 28th, 2010 by Kyle Burles

So once again the Calgary Expo is coming up and for the second time I am submitting a drawing for their commemerative art book. Well to start with I did a drawing up and almost instantly I was not happy with it. I redrew the girl in the main part of the drawing and was happier with it, THEN the drawing they posted for advertising the book had a very similar look to the girl in my submission. So as I am wont to do, I have for the third time drawn a new submission. thankfully the deadline isn’t until the end of Feb so I have to to waffle. Rules are that submissions are not supposed to be shown before hand but no rules against showing the one that I ain’t submitting.

I really like the texture on the planets! What did you use?

I’d have made the energy from her rocket boots more glowy. Try creating a Screen layer on top of your line layer, give it an opacity of between 40 to 60 percent, and paint white or very light blue around your energy bits.

The planets was just some of my splatter brushes and some use of the smudge tool. I thought about glow but I didn’t want to take away from the old time comic look. I may go back though, I’ld also like to add some glow to the planets.
